What's cooking: Susanna Alexandra
Cyan Kicks' vocalist and songwriter Susanna Alexandra opens up about random things on the third part of our Q&A series "What's cooking"! The band's latest album, "I Never Said 4Ever" was released on Ranka Kustannus in May 2023 – scroll down to take a listen.
If Cyan Kicks were a family, which family member would you be and why?
Susanna Alexandra: "I would be the youngest child in the family who runs around all the time, constantly loses her things everywhere, asks questions all-the-time and keeps getting lost everywhere."
Cyan Kicks has competed in UMK (Finland's Eurovision qualifying competition) twice. What is so attractive about Eurovision?
SA: "Our goal is to grow our audience as much as possible in Europe along with the rest of the world and I can't really think of a better platform to introduce your music to Europe than ESC."
What was your first gig (as a performer) like?
SA: "My first performance ever was in a bar in Pori where we played covers as a duo with my friend, he was playing guitar and I sang. The situation was so incredibly scary that I kept my eyes closed the whole gig and clenched the mic stand with white knuckles. I suffered from bad performance anxiety for a really long time, which got better only about a couple of years ago."
What Finnish song would you recommend to all the people in the world?
SA: "I thought for a while about all the great Finnish songs until I realized that if I really had the opportunity to present any Finnish song to the whole world, of course I would choose my own song: Cyan Kicks' I Never Said 4ever."
If Cyan Kicks’ music was a vehicle, what kind of vehicle would it be?
SA: "An efficient and super fast electric car that can move not only on land but also in air and water. You could also travel to space with it. And to other dimensions. Easily."
What song always makes you feel nostalgic?
SA: "When I was a little girl I wanted to start listening to a little heavier music. I walked to a record store and bought the album Blessed Be by the band The 69 Eyes, just because I thought the album cover was cool. I didn't like the album at all, but I thought one song was quite good. "Brandon Lee" from that album played on repeat in my room for quite a long time. Every time I hear that song these days I feel so nostalgic."
What song always gets you on the dance floor?
SA: "Shakira's "Hips Don't Lie" never fails."
What do you eat for breakfast?
SA: "I never eat breakfast, but I make myself a big oat milk latte every morning."
Audiobooks or printed books and why?
SA: "Audiobooks! I love doing all kinds of stuff while listening. I would like to read more and I've tried but my concentration is just really bad (or my choice of books)."
If you had the chance to collaborate with any musician dead or alive,
who would it be?
SA: "Oli Sykes from BMTH. No question."
