Seven Finnish composers at UNM 2012
The forum for young Nordic composers, UNM (Ung Nordisk Musik) will take place in Reykjavik, Iceland, from 28 August to 1 September. The theme for this year's meeting is Music Innovation.
The eight concerts include seven Finnish composers. Jarkko Hartikainen's Self-aware (29 Aug) is a duo for accordion and piano, whereas Outi Tarkiainen, Tapio Lappalainen and Miika Hyytiäinen will present vocal works. Tarkiainen's Metsän hiljaisuuteen (28 Aug) will be sung by Finnish singer Aili Ikonen, and Hyytiäinen's Makabere Geschichten (31 Aug) features Icelandic soprano Rannveig Sif Sigurðardóttir. Lappalainen's Ruusunuppu (30 Aug) will be performed by Kammerkór Suðurlands.
Altogether three Finnish works appear in the final concert on 1 September, to be played by the Icelandic CAPUT sinfonietta in Reykjavik's famed concert hall Harpa. The programme includes Lauri Supponen's Fras, Tiina Myllärinen's Squarcio, and Matei Gheorgiu's Dialogue with a forbidden muse.
