Salonen, Lindberg and Saariaho on CD
Esa-Pekka Salonen's award-winning Violin Concerto (2009) is now available on CD (Out of Nowhere, DG 4790628). This is the world premiere recording of the large scale work that has already got much attention around the world. Written for the soloist, violinist Leila Josefowicz, the Violin Concerto won the prestigious Grawemeyer Award in 2012.
The new CD with Finnish Radio Symphony Orchestra also includes another recent orchestral work by Salonen, titled Nyx (2011). The recording was made in Helsinki's Musiikkitalo in May 2012.
Also Magnus Lindberg's and Kaija Saariaho's works have been released on CD in September-October. Both albums are part of Ondine's catalogue and they give a view into the composers' chamber work repertoire. The Magnus Lindberg CD (ODE 1199-2) features clarinettist Kari Kriikku and cellist Anssi Karttunen along with the composer himself in piano. Kaija Saariaho's Trios (ODE 1189-2) are played by a larger group of performers, for example soprano Pia Freund and pianist Tuija Hakkila.
