Producer Jonas W. Karlsson earns Grammy for Contemporary Instrumental Album

In the 68th Grammy Awards ceremony, held Feb 1st in Los Angeles, Finnish music producer Jonas W. Karlsson received the Grammy in the "Best Contemporary Instrumental Album" category for his work on the electroacoustic string duo Arkai's latest album "Brightside".

Jonas W. Karlsson has production credits on all 11 tracks on the Arkai second album Brightside, along with Donny Bravo, Charlie Heat, and the band's two musicians, violinist Jonathan Miron and cellist Philip Sheegog – both acclaimed instrumentalists in rock and pop music as well as the classical world.

“I ended up with the project when I produced the band's first album while I was still living in Los Angeles. The band's manager was pleased with my work and wanted me to produce the band's next album as well. Something has clearly been done right when you get such great recognition for your work!” Karlsson comments.

This is the second time Karlsson has won a Grammy during his career. In 2020, he was awarded for "Best R&B Album" for his work on John Legend’s “Bigger Love” record. With this award, Karlsson has earned the most Grammy awards in Finland, tied with Esa-Pekka Salonen, who has won the coveted award in 2009 and 2025.

Jonas W. Karlsson is internationally known as a producer and songwriter as well as a mastering engineer. His mastering work includes clients such as Tinashe, Jhené Aiko, Amber Mark, ZAYN, blackbear, BIA, Iggy Pop, and Hatsune Miku.

This year's Grammy nominations also featured Esa-Pekka Salonen for Best Orchestral Performance, and hip hop producers MD$ and Danitello, who received recognition for their work on Burna Boy’s latest album.
