Nordic Music Days in Stockholm
Nordic Music Days is a yearly festival for Nordic composers, a forum to meet and present the most interesting of each country's creative work. Each year, the event arranged by Nordic composer associations together, is set in a different Nordic country. This year the festival will take place in Stockholm, Sweden from 10 to 13 October.
Six Finnish works will be presented at the festival. Mixing electronics with acoustic playing is a recurrent theme, with one all-electronic Finnish work, Petri Sirviö & Jukka Ruohomäki's work Bourgeoise and Proletarians in the programme. Other interesting examples include Timothy Page's Toccata (2012, world premiere) for halldorophone, clarinet and electronics, and Veli Kujala's Hyperchromatic Counterpoint with quarter-tone accordion and electronics. Olli Koskelin's Goings and Minna Leinonen's Intre are written for chamber ensemble, and Matthew Whittall's Shiki is a work for mixed choir. The works will be performed by include ensembles and performers as well as Nordic guest musicians.
