Nordic Cool at the Kennedy Center
The Kennedy Center is trying to find the essence of “Nordic” by presenting Nordic Cool 2013 multi-art festival. This international festival of theater, dance, music, visual arts, literature, design, cuisine, and film brings more than 700 artists to celebrate the diverse cultures of Denmark, Finland, Iceland, Norway, and Sweden.
Nordic Cool 2013 takes place from February 10 to March 17 in Washington, USA. The festival’s music program includes a lot of variations from pop to contemporary and classical music and, of course, world music. The Finnish music groups taking part are Tango Orchestra Unto, featuring the six virtuosos who salute the classic Finnish tango repertoire with their freshly nuanced and powerful renditions, the Sami joik singer Wimme, Royal Stockholm Philharmonic Orchestra conducted by Sakari Oramo, jazz group Olli Hirvonen Quartet, sing language rapper Signmark and violin player Pekka Kuusisto who plays Magnus Lindberg's Violin Concerto on a program with works by Sibelius and Saariaho.
