February 8th marks the 50th birthday of one of Finland’s most recognized contemporary composers, Lotta Wennäkoski. The "Flounce" composer's special day will be – naturally – celebrated with a concert.

Lotta Wennäkoski's birthday will be celebrated with a birthday concert with Avanti! Chamber Orchestra in Helsinki. The concert is dedicated to Wennäkoski’s chamber music, spiced with Hungarian folk songs performed by the composer herself. 

During this spring, Wennäkoski's BBC Proms commissioned work Flounce (see video below) will be heard in programs by Belgian National Orchestra, the Orchestra dell'Accademia Nazionale di Santa Cecilia and the Royal Stockholm Philharmonic. The Finnish Radio Symphony Orchestra will perform Wennäkoski's Uniin asti (Until the Dreams) in April.
