Lindberg’s music highlighted in the Benelux
The Flanders Symphony Orchestra in Belgium is highlighting Magnus Lindberg’s music in its programme 2013–2014. The opening concert of the season in October features Lindberg’s Feria (1997) along with music by Liszt and Mahler. The Clarinet Concerto (2001–2002) is on programme in December, with Swedish clarinetist Emil Jonason, and Parada (2001) will be played in January 2014. Lindberg’s Violin Concerto (2006) will be played by Matthew Trusler in March. All of the concerts will be heard in Bruges, Antwerp and Brussels, and the opening concert will also tour in France.
The Netherlands-based New European Ensemble will have an all-season “Lindberg project” on its agenda 2013–2014. The project will launch on 1 November with a two-day mini-festival in The Hague. The composer will be attending rehearsals and concerts as well as giving master classes at The Hague’s Royal Conservatory. Besides Lindberg the New European Ensemble will play also other contemporary music in the concerts, for example works by Esa-Pekka Salonen. The Lindberg project continues in May 2014 with concerts in Amsterdam and The Hague.
A lot of performances for Lindberg’s works are expected also elsewhere. The newest work, Red House, will have performances in Helsinki and New York in September, and of the other orchestral works Chorale (2001–2002) and EXPO (2009) will have several performances this season in various countries. The concertos will be played in several continents. For example, Finnish violinist Elina Vähälä will play the Violin Concerto in Portland, Oregon, and Kari Kriikku will play the Clarinet Concerto in Germany and France. The Piano Concerto No. 2 (2011–2012) with Yefim Bronfman as soloist will have performances in New York in January and a Canadian premiere in Toronto in March.
