Lindberg's Era in Amsterdam
After many successful seasons as New York Philharmonic's Composer-in-Residence, Magnus Lindberg's new orchestral works have usually got their world premieres in the US in the latest years. The 125th anniversary of Amsterdam's Concertgebouw will make a change to this pattern. Lindberg's new work Era, commissioned to celebrate the occasion, will be premiered in Amsterdam on 17 January with the Royal Concertgebouw Orchestra and David Robertson. Later on 9 March, Lindberg's new work will also be heard in the UK as part of the BBC's "New from the North" day at Barbican Centre.
The New World hasn't forgotten Lindberg either. His orchestral works and concertos will travel in USA and Canada in early 2013. On programme are, for example, a US West Coast premiere of EXPO (14 Feb) in San Francisco and Canadian premiere of the Violin Concerto (21 Feb) in Ottawa with Finnish violinist Pekka Kuusisto. Kuusisto will also play Lindberg's concerto at Kennedy Center, Washington DC on 2 March.
