Singer and ethnomusicologist Karoliina Kantelinen will be touring solo in Norway on October 9-14 and with vocal ensemble Ketsurat in Spain on November 7-8. She is also currently preparing an orchestral piece called Karelian joik, which will be performed together with Deutsch-Skandinavische Jugend-Philharmonie, lead by conductor Andreas Peer Kähler on January 6 in Berlin, Germany.

Karoliina Kantelinen specializes in different ethnic singing styles. She is especially engrossed in the fascinating joik tradition of Dvina Karelia, of which she’s a skillful interpreter, and she is also known for performing and teaching the Finnish lament tradition. Karoliina Kantelinen uses the traditional Kalevala style as an inspiration for new contemporary folk-based compositions. Her aim is to combine new and old, and to leave her listeners with a strong and moving experience of this historic, yet very contemporary, music.
