Kare Eskola steps in as FMQ’s temporary editor-in-chief
For the following three months, FMQ (Finnish Music Quarterly) magazine, the independent music media operating under Music Finland, will have a new editor-in-chief. Music journalist Kare Eskola will temporarily take the chair occupied by the magazine’s long-time editor-in-chief Anu Ahola for the past years.
Kare Eskola is a freelance music journalist and critic, who works mainly for the Finnish Broadcasting Company (YLE). His weekly radio show Välilevyjä has been broadcast in YLE Radio 1 since 2007. Eskola was one of the scriptwriters for TV series Klassinen Suomi (2016), has lectured about music and media for various audiences and works in different jurys and boards. During this period of time, Hanna Isolammi will continue working as FMQ’s editor.
The Finnish Music Quarterly (FMQ) has been a showcase in English for Finnish musical culture since 1985. It addresses all aspects of the Finnish music scene and keeps track of what is happening in Finland. Its theme issues have been devoted to various genres of Finnish music from classical to jazz, folk and popular music, and such topics as music education, the numerous Finnish summer festivals, and crossover between music and other arts.
