Jukka Tiensuu’s new work receives its world premiere at LG Arts Center in Seoul, South Korea on October 30. The work, titled Teoton, is a 20 minute concerto for sheng (chinese mouth-organ) and orchestra. Teoton is performed by sheng virtuoso Wu Wei and Seoul Philharmonic Orchestra led by conductor Ilan Volkov. 

Teoton is commissioned by five international orchestras (Seoul Philharmonic Orchestra, Netherlands Radio Philharmonic, The Norwegian Radio Orchestra, National Taiwan Symphony Orchestra and the Strasbourg Philharmonic Orchestra).  The European premiere is held at Concertgebouw in Amsterdam on January 30, 2016.

Seoul Philharmonic Orchestra is one of the most prestigious orchestras in Asia. Chief Conductor of the orchestra is Myung-Whun Chung and its recent accomplishments include a a record deal with Deutsche Grammophon and international tours that have received positive feedback. 

Tiensuu’s Teoton is premiered as a part of Seoul Philharmonic’s Ars Nova series, which focuses on new music. As a part of Ars Nova, Seoul Philharmonic has performed multiple works by Jukka Tiensuu before, including Alma III: Soma for orchestra, Ikisyyt for ensemble, Brandi and Nous for ensemble (all of which were the Asian premieres of the works).
