Iceland and Denmark join Northern Connection
Northern Connection continues in 2024 with two new partner countries: Denmark and Iceland. The idea of Northern Connection is to connect Nordic countries and Scotland by establishing and strengthening liaisons between composers, ensembles and festivals in contemporary music.
Northern Connection started in 2023 with composers, ensembles and festivals from Finland, Norway and Scotland, one from each country. Three premieres of commissioned new works took place in Musica nova Helsinki, Ultima Oslo Contemporary Music Festival and Sound Festival, Scotland. The network organised meetings and discussions throughout the year.
This year, Northern Connection partners will meet and organise networking sessions at Classical:NEXT in Berlin on May 14–17. In October, the initiative continues at Sound Festival and Nordic Music Days in Scotland, when the commissioned works will be performed again.
The current plan is that the new Northern Connection call for composers from Finland, Norway, Denmark, Scotland, Denmark and Iceland will be announced during 2024. The project is coordinated by Music Finland, Music Norway, Scottish Music Centre, Art Music Denmark and Iceland Music.
