Haapanen’s Mermaid Machines at Baltic Sea Festival
Baltic Sea Festival (24 Aug – 1 Sep) in Stockholm, Sweden, will feature Perttu Haapanen's new work Mermaid Machines on 28 August. The commission is part of the festival's Baltic Composers Project, and altogether three premieres will take place at the same concert by Stockholm New Chamber Orchestra (SNYKO) and conductor Susanna Mälkki.
More Finnish colour to the festival will be brought by Finnish Radio Symphony Orchestra, performing at the opening concert on 24 August. The opening is a special production of Wagner's Tristan and Isolde, first to be seen at Helsinki Festival on 18 and 21 August. The production also features conductor Esa-Pekka Salonen – Baltic Sea festival's Artistic Director – and Finnish singers Matti Salminen, Jukka Rasilainen, Waltteri Torikka, Tuomas Katajala and Arttu Kataja.
