Get to know FMQ Magazine's new editorial staff
We warmly welcome the new people at FMQ (Finnish Music Quarterly) magazine! For the Fall season 2022, FMQ, the independent music media operating under Music Finland, will have a new editorial staff.
Musicologist and researcher, Dr Lasse Lehtonen will now take the editor-in-chief’s chair occupied by Anu Ahola for many years, and previously also Kare Eskola. FMQ’s new editor, taking the place of Hanna Isolammi, is Loviisa Pihlakoski.
Lehtonen is a researcher at University of Helsinki and has previously worked as editor-in-chief in several Finnish music magazines and journals. As a researcher he specializes in the study of music in Japan, including musical exchange between Finland and Japan. Pihlakoski has previously held communications and export posts at Music Finland, managing for example the Finnish participation on the Global Music Match project. She has also worked as a publicist for the record label Kaiku Entertainment.
"In my opinion, FMQ is a key channel to discuss themes that may otherwise remain unnoticed in international media. I feel enthusiastic about this opportunity to introduce phenomena of music in Finland to a global audience. During my term as the editor-in-chief, I wish to pay particular attention to the diversity of Finnish musical life as well as highlight themes that have so far received somewhat less attention in public discussion in spite of their significance. I very much look forward to working for FMQ! ", Lehtonen comments on his new editorial post.
The Finnish Music Quarterly (FMQ) has been a showcase in English for Finnish musical culture since 1985. It addresses all aspects of the Finnish music scene and keeps track of what is happening in Finland. Its theme issues have been devoted to various genres of Finnish music from classical to jazz, folk and popular music, and such topics as music education, the numerous Finnish summer festivals, and crossover between music and other arts.
