Five Finnish acts will take over the stages of Groeningen’s Eurosonic this week! Finland’s line-up consists of pop singer Alma, singer-songwriter Lxandra, pop act Isac Elliot, psychedelic folk rock band Pekko Käppi & K:H:H:L and electronic producer Tontario. 

Alma

In the rare case of the 21-year-old songwriter Alma it's all about talent and songwriting. Debut song ”Karma” is one of those instant pop gems that earned her two Finnish Grammys and comparisons to Rihanna, or 'the voice of Amy Winehouse with Crystal Castles' electronic pop'. She has scored smash hit after smash hit (with German EDM-producer Felix Jaehn and recently American hip hop artist French Montana), is signed to Universal Music and made quite an impression at the BBC Radio 1 Future Festival and at Eurosonic 2017. She's currently working on her debut album with the likes of MNEK, Rudimental, Gorgon City, Sub Focus, 2 Inch Punch and Charli XCX.

Isac Elliot

It's hard to believe that Finland's biggest pop star is just 17-years-old, given all that he's already accomplished. Lxandra

Lxandra is a 20-year-old singer-songwriter from the small island of Suomenlinna, close to Helsinki. She has been living and working on her debut album in Berlin, so coming from a island of 800 residents the German capital offers inspiration in every corner. Always eager to learn and grow as an artist, Lxandra honed her craft as a songwriter for other artists, patiently waiting for the right tracks to launch her own pop project Flicker.

PEKKO KÄPPI & K:H:H:L

They go by the name Pekko Käppi & K:H:H:L (meaning Bones of the dead crazy horses). Their music deals with love, death, Finnish voodoo and archaic grooves. Think: traditional folk meets psychedelic grooving rock, like distant relatives of Swedish collective Goat. The Finnish group's minimalist sound has a distinct odour with layered colliding rhythms, psychedelic sights, traditional lyrics and harshly joyous jouhikko (traditional lyre) playing with drones and distortion. And it is sweetly dangerous, like sounds from the Finnish summer swamps that hide the secrets from the past.
