Composer Miika Hyytiäinen is premiering three different musical theatre performances at three prominent international festivals within this spring and summer. 

These new works show Hyytiäinen's special relationship to the human voice as well as his his analytical yet humorous aesthetics in experimental musical theatre.

The first of these performances was ”Queen Bee”, a musical theatre concerto for subcontrabass flute and ensemble that premiered at Tampere Biennale on April 13 with soloist Liz Hirst and Ensemble Garage. The piece was also performed in Helsinki and Cologne within a week after the premiere. 

In June Hyytiäinen will premiere an opera named ”Königliche Membranwerke ­– Nomictic Solutions” at the Münchener Biennale: Internationales Festival für neues Musiktheater (an international festival for new musical theatre). The opera will have five performances in Munich between June 5 and June 12.

This year’s third piece by Hyytiäinen is ”Seeing Voices”, a lecture performance which is promised to make ’the academic academic and bodily analytical’. "Seeing Voices" is a collaboration between Miika Hyytiäinen and singer Julia Mihály, in which the composer analyzes the singer's voice using Voice Map analysis to produce material for her body and personality. The premiere will take place in Die internationalen Ferienkurse für Neue Musik Darmstadt on July 21.
