Sansa on co-writing with Kaskade

These last weeks have been great time for Finnish songwriters, who’ve co-written hits for major international artists. We asked a few questions from songwriter Sansa, who performed vocals and co-wrote Kaskade’s song A Little More. The song proved to be succesful, as it climbed to the iTunes Dance chart top 10 and became No. 1 on Beatport's Progressive House chart.

How did the collaboration with Kaskade and John Dahlbäck happen?

John Dahlback picked up a top line I wrote a few years back. He worked with it and then sent it to Kaskade, who immediately loved the track and wanted to put his magic into it! So we recorded new vocals and added a second verse together in London.

The music you write solo is rather different if compared to A Little More. Did the songwriting process feel different when working in the field of EDM music?

Obviously there is a difference. I think that the fun of writing dance music overall is that you need to work inside a certain framework. With A Little More my creation was the top line. While writing my own music I’m closer to an auteur, creating everything myself.

What has the reception for the song been so far?

According to Kaskade the track has been very well received in his live DJ set all over the world. It seems like people really relate to the song.  I’m very happy about that. Some people say that it’s very emotional, I’ve heard it’s been called a bluesy EDM which is cool.

Do you have any other projects coming up?

I just finished recording my album in London, which is due out in late spring 2015. There are lots of exciting collaborations coming up in the field of dance music too. This field is still kind of new to me and I hope I’ll get more chances to work with different producers and DJ’s.
