Chelsea Music Festival celebrates Finnish music

The 2015 Chelsea Music Festival will celebrate Finland and Hungary with its annual edition of innovative programming that features leading artists in the performing, visual and culinary arts. From June 12-20, 2015 in New York City, over two dozen events will take place in a wide range of venues throughout Manhattan.

Finnish program highlights include reflections and collaborations on the life and music of Jean Sibelius, who celebrates his 150th birthday, as well as the music of Einojuhani Rautavaara, Uljas Pulkkis, Ilari Kaila and more.

Festival’s Composer-in-Residence is Ilari Kaila, while Avanti! is Ensemble-in-Residence. Other notable program mentions include the Tapiola Chamber Choir, the stage play “Sibelius & Ida“ in its U.S. premiere and the jazz ensemble Tuomo Uusitalo Trio.

Hailed by The New York Times as a “gem of a series,” the Chelsea Music Festival exists to celebrate great music by bringing together world-leading musicians and exciting newcomers to the international stage.
