Eurosonic 2016

13.01.2016 – 16.01.2016

Eurosonic is probably the most important showcase event for the live industry in Europe. The event takes place in Groningen, The Netherlands on January 13-16. With around 3000 music professionals, 250 showcases from national and international talent, 100 panels and meetings and 250 speakers from around the globe, Eurosonic serves as a prime discussion and network platform for the international music industry and media.

Finnish artists

Hexvessel

Hexvessel, fronted by Mat "Kvohst" McNerney (also known from Grave Pleasures and Beastmilk), prefers to call itself a commune rather than a band. Hexvessel plays psychedelic music in the true meaning of the term. They balance their simple folk tunes with psychedelic drive, reminiscing of classic 1960's bands like Captain Beefheart and The Doors. In its home country, the band has sold out headline tours and been nominated for local Grammy awards twice. They've also toured Europe with bands like Sabbath Assembly and Alcest and played international festivals like Roadburn in Holland and SXSW. Hexvessel's third album is due out in January 2016 through the Century Media label.

Katéa

Finnish singer Katéa names Amy Winehouse, Adele, Lorde, Florence and the Machine and Lana Del Rey as her influences. Big names indeed, but her debut single 'That Ain't Love' lives up to them. Her music is somewhere between indie, pop and folk, and her songs are all potential hits, thanks to her beautiful voice.

Liima (FIN, DK)

Adventurous new project Liima finds Efterklang-members Casper Clausen, Rasmus Stolberg and Mads Brauer teaming up with Finnish percussionist Tatu Rönkkö. In a way, Liima bears strong semblance to Efterklang's more experimental, electronic work, albeit with greater emphasis on live improvisation. Sparked by Rönkkö's dynamic musicianship, Liima sequesters luscious, ephemeral beauty rather than adhering to set compositions.

Steve 'N' Seagulls

Steve 'N' Seagulls are the latest novelty sensation from Finland, scoring viral hits with spirited bluegrass renditions of hard rock/heavy metal classics such as Led Zeppelin's "Black Dog", AC/DC's "Thunderstruck" and Iron Maiden's "The Trooper". What started out as a gleeful experiment in an old barn suddenly became an all-pervasive phenomenon.
