WOMEX World Music Expo 2015

21.10.2015 – 25.10.2015

WOMEX World Music Expo is the most important international networking platform for world and folk music professionals. In 2014, Womex gathered more than 2400 professionals from 90 different countries from across the world. The exhibition provides an exceptional platform for buyers and sellers; the recognized showcase concert series presents a wide range of current top world music artists representing all continents, musical traditions and styles.

The annual five-day event consists of a bustling trade fair, a showcase festival, a conference, and a film programme, as well as festive opening and award ceremonies. This year WOMEX will take place in Budapest, Hungary, from Wednesday 21 to Sunday 25 October 2015.

Official showcase artist from Finland: Jaakko Laitinen & Väärä Raha

Exciting Finnish act Jaakko Laitinen & Väärä Raha has made it to the prominent Official Selection of WOMEX showcase. Their music is described to be “a blend of Balkan gypsy music, Russian romances and old Finnish humppa”.
Jaakko Laitinen & Väärä Raha will play at WOMEX on Thursday 22 October at 00:00-00:45 at MüPa Twin Stage A.

’The Lost Soul’ is part of the Film Selection

Finnish short film Sijaton sielu (The Lost Soul) has been chosen to the Film Selection of WOMEX 2015. The Lost Soul (director: Tommi Kainulainen, 2014) is a silent film that combines music and dance. Anne-Mari Kivimäki and Reetta-Kaisa Iles, the versatile musicians and performing artists of the duo Puhti, are also the main performers in this compelling film, playing almost all the roles. The short film tells about the devil’s appearance in a Karelian village called Suistamo. The film will be screened on Thursday 22 October at 19:30 at MüPa Cinema.
